Community Involvement

Building an inclusive culture also means investing in the communities around us. Every year, GHA co-owners dedicate hours to philanthropic and volunteer initiatives that support people and causes across Illinois.

Introduce a Girl to Engineering

We host events at our Illinois headquarters that inspire girls to pursue careers in engineering. Co-owners lead hands-on activities, share their experiences, and serve as mentors.

Adopt-a-Highway Events

Twice a year, GHA co-owners and their families unite for our Adopt-A-Highway initiative, helping improve the cleanliness and safety of local roadways in partnership with the Lake County Division of Transportation and the Kansas Department of Transportation.

Friends of the
Chicago River

We partner with Friends of the Chicago River at North Park in Lincolnshire to help preserve local waterways. Together, we protect this natural resource for future generations and the wildlife that depends on it.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

Each year, we host Grilling for St. Jude’s, bringing co-owners together to prepare and serve meals in support of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and its mission to combat childhood diseases.

Cancer Wellness Center Annual Walk

We proudly support the Cancer Wellness Center’s Stepping Up to Wellness Run/Walk. Co-owners participate each year to raise awareness of cancer wellness and support individuals and families affected by cancer.

Northern Illinois Food Bank

We pack and sort food for families in our area at the Northern Illinois Food Bank. We are committed to doing our part to address food insecurity in the communities we serve.

Youth Conservation Corps Summer Conservation Program

GHA supports the Youth Conservation Corps Program with the Lake County Forest Preserves through financial contributions and hands-on involvement. The program gives young people conservation experience while developing leadership and career skills. One former participant is now a member of GHA’s leadership team.

Cristo Rey St. Martin College Prep Corporate Work Study Program

Since 2004, GHA has participated in Cristo Rey St. Martin College Prep’s Corporate Work Study Program in Waukegan. High school students gain meaningful workplace experience while building critical-thinking, organizational, and professional skills that support their future success.

City Colleges of Chicago Black Equity and Excellence Scholarships

GHA proudly supports the City Colleges of Chicago Foundation Black Equity and Excellence Scholarship Fund. We’ve donated scholarship opportunities to STEM-focused, African American candidates in the technical and engineering field.

College of Lake County Foundation Scholarships

GHA has donated scholarship opportunities for engineering and CAD drafting students through the College of Lake County Foundation.

Staff Engagement

Employee-led committees invite GHA co-owners to contribute where they’re most passionate, promoting collaboration and continuous improvement at our organization and beyond.

Philanthropy Committee

Help shape GHA’s community involvement by evaluating charitable partnerships, planning fundraising efforts, and supporting causes that align with our mission and values.

Employee Stock Ownership Plan Advisory Council

Represent the interests of GHA’s co-owners by serving as a liaison to the Board of Directors and strengthening our ownership culture.

Health & Wellness Committee

Promote physical and mental well-being by creating wellness initiatives and organizing activities that support healthy lifestyles.

Social Committee

Plan events and experiences that bring co-owners together through a strong sense of community—the annual family picnic, holiday party, and wiffle ball tournament, to name a few.

Employee Recognition Committee

Manage activities that celebrate the achievements, milestones, and contributions of fellow co-owners, such as the annual Years of Service luncheon.
