Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc. (GHA) was retained by the Chicago Botanic Garden (CBG) to provide professional geospatial services for a utility mapping project. The Garden requested the conversion of existing as-built utility documentation into a GIS format, displayed over a current aerial basemap.
GHA developed a custom data model using the ESRI Utility Network Solution. This model defined relationships between utility elements and established a network topology to support asset management and analysis. The team then digitized and georeferenced the utility data based on PDF documentation provided by the CBG, which included recent watermain improvements.
Throughout the project, GHA collaborated with Garden staff, participated in meetings, conducted data quality reviews, and managed project milestones. The completed mapping effort provides the Chicago Botanic Garden with a reliable and accessible reference to support utility planning and maintenance.
