Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc. (GHA) provided Phase III Resident Engineering for the Wolf Road Sidewalk Improvements in Prospect Heights, IL. The project involved the construction of a 1.21-mile sidewalk along Wolf Road, improving pedestrian connectivity between Edward Road/Metra Station and Palatine Frontage Road.

The project scope included curb and gutter removal and replacement, driveway reconstruction, new enclosed storm sewer system, hot-mix asphalt pavement patching, and new pedestrian traffic signals. GHA ensured that all work met IDOT standards and federal aid project requirements, as the project was funded through a combination of Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP), Congestion Mitigation Air Quality (CMAQ), and local funds.

As part of the construction engineering services, GHA provided full-time observation, survey geometric control, cross sections, and layout verification to confirm contractor compliance with design plans. Extensive coordination with multiple utility companies was required to address conflicts with existing infrastructure and maintain project progress. Coordination with the Canadian National (CN) Railroad was also critical, requiring additional reviews and safety considerations. Additionally, GHA worked with the City and contractors to maintain residential and driveway access throughout construction, minimizing disruptions to the surrounding community. GHA also performed IDOT documentation and reimbursement requests, facilitating a smooth project closeout.

By delivering comprehensive construction oversight and stakeholder coordination, this project successfully enhanced pedestrian accessibility while ensuring long-term infrastructure improvements for the City of Prospect Heights.
