Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc. (GHA) collaborated with the Village of Buffalo Grove to conduct a thorough assessment of the Village’s 23.8 miles of bike and shared-use paths. The project focused on evaluating current conditions, enhancing connectivity within the network, and guiding future maintenance and development efforts.
GHA conducted field surveys, capturing detailed data on path conditions, from surface wear to rutting and cracking. Using a modified Pavement Surface Evaluation and Rating (PASER) system, GHA provided clear, standardized ratings that allowed for strategic planning and prioritization of repairs. A key objective was to pinpoint opportunities to bridge gaps within the network, enhancing connectivity and ensuring safer, more seamless routes for users.
The assessment also sought to align local paths with broader regional networks, building a more cohesive system. By integrating the findings into the Village’s existing asset management platform, Cartegraph, GHA helped streamline the planning process, ensuring smooth maintenance coordination and efficient resource management. The final report laid out practical, data-driven solutions designed to boost connectivity, elevate safety, and extend the lifespan of Buffalo Grove’s path network.
