Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc. (GHA) provided civil engineering services to the Lake County Forest Preserve District for the Lakewood Maintenance Facility project in Wauconda, IL. The facility was designed as a Net Zero facility, incorporating sustainable design elements to align with the environmental goals of the Lake County Forest Preserve District.
GHA’s scope of services included comprehensive site design, with an emphasis on optimizing space to effectively meet the facility’s staffing and material storage needs. The project included installing underground stormwater piping and structures to manage runoff effectively, with all stormwater diverted to the west to protect rare species in Taylor Lake. Additionally, a septic system and storage tank were installed, ensuring adequate water supply.
The site incorporated both heavy-duty and standard-duty asphalt pavement in conjunction with concrete pavement, designed to support vehicle and pedestrian traffic effectively. Concrete sidewalks were installed to improve accessibility.
The design was optimized to limit tree removals and carefully integrated the building layout while maintaining environmental considerations. Throughout the project, GHA provided guidance on the design and layout of the facility to meet the operational needs of the Lake County Forest Preserve District.
During the construction phase, GHA conducted site observations to ensure the project adhered to the specified design and environmental standards. The successful completion of the Lakewood Maintenance Facility project underscores GHA’s commitment to delivering high-quality, sustainable engineering solutions that meet the needs of our clients and the communities they serve.
