Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc. (GHA) provided full civil engineering services for the Advocate Health Care Medical Office Building (MOB) site development in Lake Villa, Illinois. The project included transforming a 9.6-acre agricultural site into a state-of-the-art healthcare facility with critical infrastructure upgrades.
Key components included mass earthwork, installation of water main, storm sewer, and sanitary sewer systems, and the construction of a stormwater detention basin. The project also involved the construction of a new access way and right-turn-lane on Milwaukee Avenue (Illinois Route 83). This route is under the jurisdiction of the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and required close coordination and permitting with that agency. A segmental brick retaining wall was constructed around the detention basin, complementing site landscaping and drainage systems.
GHA’s role extended to comprehensive stormwater management, ensuring compliance with Lake County Watershed Development Ordinance requirements. Coordination with IDOT, the Village of Lake Villa, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers were critical for permitting and approvals. Throughout construction, GHA conducted regular site visits to monitor activities such as water main connections, fine grading, utility installations, and paving operations.
The completed site successfully integrates infrastructure and access improvements, supporting Advocate Health Care’s operational goals while delivering functional and aesthetic enhancements to the property.
