Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc. (GHA) provided civil engineering services for the Buffalo Grove Public Works Facility, the village’s largest facility upgrade to date. This $34 million project involved the adaptive reuse of a vacant warehouse, achieving significant cost savings compared to new construction. The project addresses the growing demands of the community’s infrastructure, ensuring enhanced operational capacity.

Following a 2017 space needs assessment, it was determined that the previous public works facility on Raupp Boulevard was no longer sufficient to meet the village’s needs. The new facility includes state-of-the-art utility system controls, sustainable equipment for snow and ice management, and an expanded Emergency Operations Center (EOC), supported by federal funding, which enhances Buffalo Grove’s emergency response capabilities. Additionally, the upgraded site frees up the former public works building, now serving as a temporary home for Fire Station 25 during its renovation.

GHA’s role encompassed detailed surveying, civil site design, preparation of construction documents, and comprehensive construction observation. Throughout the project, GHA worked closely with village officials to ensure regulatory compliance, including effective stormwater management.

This adaptive reuse approach has allowed the village to enhance service delivery while optimizing costs, demonstrating GHA’s commitment to delivering practical solutions that improve community preparedness and operational readiness.
