Community Playfield Tennis Court Improvements

Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc. (GHA) completed the Tennis Court Improvements at Community Playfield in Wilmette, IL, commissioned by the Wilmette Park District. This project aimed to rehabilitate and repurpose six tennis courts to enhance their usability and safety.

The project included resurfacing the hot-mix asphalt, rehabilitating the fencing, and implementing utility improvements and color coating. The six tennis courts were modified to accommodate four tennis courts and six pickleball courts. Additionally, the project included drainage improvements to address surface water ponding in an adjacent area.

GHA’s scope of services included an existing conditions topographic survey, and the preparation of detailed construction documents. These documents included civil site design and engineering drawings for grading, pavement rehabilitation, fencing, drainage improvements, and stormwater management.

We coordinated permit acquisition with the Village of Wilmette, ensuring all necessary regulatory approvals were obtained. During the bidding and negotiation phase, GHA assisted the Wilmette Park District by preparing technical specifications and special provisions, assisting during the bidding phase, and providing addenda and clarification as needed.

During construction, GHA provided comprehensive construction administration services. This included attending pre-construction meetings, creating a “for construction” set of drawings, reviewing shop drawings and contractor submittals, and coordinating with the design team throughout the construction period.
