Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc. (GHA) completed the 2024 Fire Hydrant Maintenance Program for the Village of Palatine. This project played a key role in preserving the effectiveness and durability of the village’s water infrastructure, crucial for emergency preparedness.

The project involved the inspection and maintenance of 279 fire hydrants. Our team conducted a thorough maintenance procedure, which included identifying any hazardous situations, inspecting and lubricating hydrant caps and threads, and flushing the hydrants to clear any rust and debris. We also ensured that each hydrant was properly drained to prevent freezing during the winter months.

Additionally, detailed inspections were carried out to assess the condition of paint, markers, and the structural integrity of each hydrant. The areas around the hydrants were checked for obstructions, sinkholes, or standing water, and any nonfunctional hydrants were promptly marked for repair.

Following the completion of the maintenance and inspections, GHA prepared a comprehensive report for the Village of Palatine. This report includes detailed data on each hydrant’s condition and provided recommendations for any required maintenance or repairs.

This project demonstrates GHA’s commitment to delivering reliable engineering solutions that enhance public safety and infrastructure resilience. By ensuring the operational readiness and longevity of the village’s hydrants, we significantly contribute to the community’s overall safety and well-being.
