Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc. (GHA) provided civil engineering services for the redevelopment of Fire Station No. 32 for the City of Highland Park. The former facility, which was originally constructed in 1929, no longer supported the operational needs of a modern emergency response facility. The new three-level station was designed to include administrative offices, living quarters, locker rooms, and a two-bay apparatus bay.
GHA’s work included design and documentation for site grading, utility services, curbs, sidewalks, and pavement. Care was taken to ensure the improvements were compliant with accessibility requirements which proved challenging given the tight site constraints. The team coordinated with review agencies, addressed site-specific code requirements, and supported permitting efforts with the City.
Services extended through construction, including shop drawing reviews, milestone field observation visits, and a punch list re-inspection.
