Since its founding in 1981, Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc. (GHA) has been a leader in traffic data collection, providing manual and machine counts, license plate surveys, pedestrian and bicycle volumes, parking utilization studies, and travel time analysis.

GHA has worked extensively with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) on large-scale traffic data collection projects. In recent years, GHA has utilized high-resolution camera technology to support IDOT’s data collection efforts at approximately 250 locations per year, deploying over 300 camera setups annually for comprehensive 24-hour traffic volume and classification counts.

For the 2022-2023 IDOT contract, GHA collected data at more than 8,000 locations statewide, covering urban and rural roadways. Our teams worked from the Mississippi River to the Indiana state line and from Wisconsin to Peoria, ensuring accurate and representative traffic data across Illinois.

Since 2005, GHA has completed over 37,000 24-hour volume and vehicle length counts, including 7,500+ counts within the City of Chicago. By leveraging advanced camera technology, GHA delivers high-accuracy traffic insights that help IDOT plan and manage roadway improvements with confidence.
