Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc. (GHA) was retained to assist in the planning and development of The Garlands of Barrington, a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) near the heart of downtown Barrington, Illinois. The Garlands offers a variety of senior housing options and a mixture of levels of care; from independent living, assisted living and complete nursing care on a 32-acre site. Situated within a park-like setting, the Garlands of Barrington is a campus of buildings, gardens, quadrangles, courtyards, and open spaces, designed as an intergenerational neighborhood.

GHA worked closely with the design team, assisting in a lengthy entitlement process with the Village and adjacent neighbors. Site improvements were intricate, interweaving hardscape improvements with lakes and wandering gardens while saving numerous mature trees throughout the site. The storm water management system features three lakes and an underground detention vault.
