Valve Inspection Program

Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc. (GHA) partnered with the Village of Barrington to implement a comprehensive Valve Assessment and Exercising Program. This project focused on maintaining and prolonging the functionality of critical water infrastructure, ensuring that valves operate reliably during emergencies.

GHA’s scope of services included inspecting and exercising valves throughout the Village, collecting GPS coordinates, and integrating data into the Valve Maintenance Program. The program involved pumping down or vacuuming out valve vaults, cleaning, and inspecting valve conditions, and recording key operational data. Valves were exercised through a sequence of cycles to confirm full operation, and any issues identified were promptly reported to Village staff.

The project’s objectives were met through the systematic inspection of valves using GHA’s specialized equipment, including hydraulic valve maintenance units. The program also included detailed documentation of valve conditions, GPS mapping, and recommendations for addressing any identified deficiencies. In addition, GHA provided traffic control management where necessary and ensured that all work was completed ahead of the winter months.

The successful completion of the Valve Assessment and Exercising Program reinforced the reliability of Barrington’s water infrastructure, contributing to improved operational readiness and long-term system performance. GHA’s expertise in utility maintenance and hands-on approach helped the Village efficiently manage its aging infrastructure while maintaining service continuity.
