Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc. (GHA) provided surveying services for approximately 5.5 acres within the Whistler Woods Forest Preserve in Riverdale, IL. The survey supported environmental planning and soil & riverbank restoration efforts to inform future design decisions within the project area.

The scope included a full topographic survey along Little Calumet River between the Major Taylor Trail and South Halsted Street including adjacent areas, with features documented at 1-foot contour intervals. GHA collected horizontal and vertical data tied to NAVD88 and Illinois State Plane coordinates. The team located visible improvements, including utility structures, drainage features, trail pavement limits, signage, fencing, and adjacent roadway elements.

Tree inventory work documented the identification, diameter, and condition of trees 2″ caliper and larger. Storm sewer outfalls were mapped, and nearshore spot depths were recorded along the Calumet-Sag Channel to support erosion and access evaluation. Final deliverables included AutoCAD and PDF files prepared to meet Illinois Administrative Code requirements for topographic surveys.

This work provided accurate, up-to-date data to support design, permitting, and coordination for planned improvements at the forest preserve site.
