Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc. (GHA) collaborated with the Park District of Highland Park to provide design and engineering services for the Jeff Fox Field improvements at Larry Fink Park. The project upgraded the existing natural clay and turf infield to a modern synthetic turf surface, enhancing the drainage, playability and durability of the field while minimizing maintenance.

The project included the relocation of bleachers to a new area behind home plate, the installation of a new scoreboard, and enhancements to dugout and bleacher awnings. GHA’s design also incorporated improved pathways to ensure ADA compliance, as well as the introduction of a new outfield fence and warning track.

In addition to these field enhancements, GHA coordinated modifications to the existing irrigation system, the installation of electrical outlets in the dugout, and the provision of power for the new scoreboard. The project’s location in the floodplain also required the development of a stormwater management plan, including a new outlet to the Skokie River to support effective drainage.

Throughout the process, GHA facilitated permit acquisition from multiple regulatory agencies, including the Lake County Stormwater Management Commission, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, ensuring compliance with environmental and construction standards.

The completion of the Jeff Fox Baseball Field Improvements project has provided the community with an upgraded and accessible facility, supporting athletic events for years to come.
