Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc. (GHA) supported the Crystal Lake Park District with civil engineering services for the development of Lakewood Meadows Park. The work helped bring new recreational amenities to a previously undeveloped site, creating a community park with a variety of year-round activities.

GHA designed the park’s access points and internal pavement layout, including the parking lot and two driveway connections to Haligus Road. The team prepared grading plans for the playground, splash pad, pickleball and basketball courts, picnic shelter, and walking trail. Utility design included sanitary and water service connections to support the restroom and splash pad facilities, along with storm sewer routing and drainage improvements.

The park’s location next to an unmapped floodplain required early evaluation of stormwater constraints. GHA identified an estimated base flood elevation, adjusted grading to avoid work within flood-susceptible areas, and designed detention with an overland outlet outside wetland and waters-of-the-US boundaries. The design met Village of Lakewood and McHenry County stormwater criteria.

GHA collaborated with the Village of Lakewood on permitting, prepared soil erosion and sediment control measures, and developed final construction documents for all site improvements. The completed park offers a mix of recreational amenities supported by infrastructure and grading solutions that fit the character of the site.
