Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc. (GHA) partnered with the City of Waukegan on the FY2025-2 Sidewalk Program, a strategic project that enhanced the city’s pedestrian infrastructure through targeted improvements and ADA compliance upgrades. By focusing on the existing sidewalk network, the project addressed critical safety and accessibility needs, creating a more inclusive pedestrian environment for residents of all abilities.

GHA’s team performed comprehensive field investigations and select topographic surveys to establish accurate baseline data of sidewalk conditions. This initial assessment phase informed the design and development of detailed construction documents, with a strong focus on ADA-compliant enhancements tailored to high-traffic areas and key community zones. These upgrades improved walkability and aligned Waukegan’s infrastructure with modern accessibility standards.

To ensure successful implementation, GHA oversaw construction administration, providing project management, quality control, and adherence to ADA specifications throughout the project. This program demonstrated Waukegan’s commitment to safe, accessible public spaces and positioned the city for sustainable, pedestrian-friendly growth.
