Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc. (GHA) successfully completed engineering design and construction services for the reconstruction of the Administrative Office Parking Lot for the Northbrook Park District. This project involved the full-depth reconstruction of the parking lot and resurfacing of the maintenance yard at the Administrative Building located at 545 Academy Drive.

The project included evaluating and regrading the accessible parking spaces and path of travel to the building to ensure compliance with accessibility standards. This project also included storm sewer to improve drainage in the parking lot.

GHA’s scope of services began with conducting an existing conditions topographic survey, followed by pre-design services, including coordinating preliminary scope with the Park District, site visits, preparing concept-level exhibits, and conceptual cost opinions.

The construction documents and permit plans phase included preparing detailed engineering plans covering title sheets, site plans, existing conditions and demolition plans, grading and drainage utility plans, construction detail drawings, and soil erosion sediment control plans. GHA assisted with the preparation of the bid form, special provisions, and solicitation of contractors for the project.

GHA provided civil drawings for submission to the Village of Northbrook, responded to regulatory comments, coordinated virtual meetings with the District, prepared an engineer’s opinion of probable cost, attended a pre-construction meeting, and managed the bidding phase.
During Construction, GHA helped review shop drawings, project costs and change orders, manage scheduling and communication, provide site inspection visits and detailed reporting. GHA also helped facilitate critical field changes when unexpected conflicts occurred.

The successful completion of the design and construction for the Northbrook Park District Administrative Office Parking Lot project has enhanced the District’s facilities. GHA’s dedicated approach and commitment to delivering high-quality engineering solutions were instrumental in achieving the project’s objectives and ensuring its successful completion.
